Forums, Bulletin Boards and Message Boards Explained
What are they exactly?
Excluding a few very primitive versions, Forums, Bulletin Boards, and Message Boards usually refer to the same thing, an online community where people can sign up and post (write) their contributions.
Pros and Cons?
Forums are a strong way to get people to visit your site regularly and become more involved with your website. In this way you can build up a member base of people to present your information/advertising to. A real 'community' feel can be created with the use of forums. Having a forum can attract outside advertisers also.
On the downside though, forums are often high maintenance. They need constant supervision via 'moderators', yourself or someone who can watch the forum very often and answer questions and take care of disputes or other issues that can rise often in a busy forum.
How do know if a forum is for me and my website?
We can help you with that decision. With almost 10 years experience creating and running forums ourselves, we can discuss with you how a forum can help, or how it might actually be a bad decision for you.
Most websites do not need a forum. If your forum is unlikely to be used often then it can simply look like an online vacant lot that degrades your website. But if it can be utilized well, then a forum can be a bustling hive of activity that makes your website looks very strong.
